MCCI Catena® 4801 M301 I2C + RS-485 node
Note: due to a fire at a semiconductor fab in Japan, the LoRaWAN module used in many MCCI IoT products is very hard to obtain. Please contact MCCI via email at sales@mcci.com for current information on price and delivery of these products.
The MCCI Catena® 4801 M301 RS-485 Node for LoRaWAN® technology networks is a complete open-source single-board IoT device that can monitor and control remote Modbus, M-Bus and other industrial devices, in addition to monitoring external I2C sensors.
Based on the Murata CMWX1ZZABZ-078, the Catena 4801 M301 is a great platform for combining special purpose sensors with RS-485/Modbus based LoRaWAN investigation and deployment. It works well with The Things Network, Helium, or any LoRaWAN 1.0 or 1.1 network in the 865 to 923 MHz range.
As an I2C controller, the Catena 4801 M301 has 4 screw terminals with separate 3.3V power switched under software control. Due to I2C bus termination considerations, if you need to control multiple external I2C devices, we recommend use of an external I2C bus multiplexer/switch.
As a Modbus controller, the Catena 4801 M301 can control a large number of Modbus devices and communicate results via the LoRaWAN network, limited only by system memory and polling rate. As a Modbus device, the Catena 4801 can bridge an existing Modbus controller to the LoRaWAN network.
The standard model includes a U.FL connector and comes without connectors. Other variants include screw terminals for battery, RS-485, and I2C connections, and has pre-soldered terminals for serial ports and firmware download.
Software development requires an ST-LINK/V2 or equivalent, plus an USB to serial adapter. MCCI's Catena Development Starter Kit includes everything needed.
