The INFWIN DigiLTN is a lightning sensor with SDI-12 or RS485/Modbus-RTU output, built around the AMS AS3935 lightning sensing chip. It is an advisory instrument that detects cloud-to-ground, intra-cloud, and cloud-to-cloud discharges within a 40 km (24 mile) radius. Power supply, output interface, connector type, and cable length are configurable via ordering code - the default variant (DigiLTN-AAAB002) ships with lightning detection, RS485/Modbus-RTU output, 5–28V DC supply, a cold-pressed terminal connector, and a 2 m cable.
DigiLTN reports strike count, estimated distance to the storm head, relative energy of the last strike, and rolling strike/noise/disturber counts over several time windows. An embedded man-made disturber rejection algorithm and user-configurable detection thresholds help reduce false detections. Reverse power protection and built-in TVS/ESD protection are included.
Key Features
- Integrated AMS AS3935 lightning sensor
- 40 km detection radius: Warns of lightning storm activity within a 40 km (24 mile) radius
- Distance estimation: 15 steps, from overhead to 40 km
- Detects both discharge types: Cloud-to-ground and intra-cloud (cloud-to-cloud) flashes
- Disturber rejection: Embedded man-made disturber rejection algorithm reduces false detections
- Configurable detection thresholds: Programmable detection levels for optimal control in different environments
- Rich detection data: Strike count, noise count, disturber count, distance estimate, relative strike energy, and rolling 10/30/60-minute counts
- Digital output: SDI-12 (V1.3) for universal datalogger compatibility and low-power use, or RS485/Modbus-RTU for long cable runs or multi-sensor networks, both with built-in surge protection
- Compact size: 111 × 25.5 mm sensor body
- Reverse power protection: Built-in TVS/ESD protection
- Connector options: Cold-pressed terminal or stripped & tinned lead wires
- Configuration utility: SensorOneSet software (RS485) or SensorOneSetSDI12 software (SDI-12) included for sensor configuration
- Excellent price-performance ratio
- Cable length: 2 m standard; custom lengths available
Applications
- Industrial applications
- Weather research
- Safety management
- System integration where advisory storm data supports safety and management decisions
- LoRaWAN IoT deployments via the Catena-5310 or compatible RS485/Modbus-RTU/SDI-12 gateway
Important Notes
- DigiLTN is an advisory instrument, not a precision instrument - it indiscriminately detects cloud-to-cloud, intra-cloud, and cloud-to-ground discharges and reports an approximate distance and strike count rather than exact strike location.
- Typical detection efficiency is approximately 40%, and depends on the use environment and level of ambient man-made electromagnetic noise.
- Detection thresholds are user-configurable; raising them reduces false detections in noisy industrial environments but also reduces genuine lightning detection.
- Consecutive strikes are reported with a minimum 1 second span between events.
