The INFWIN SlabSense is a substrate/soil moisture, EC (electrical conductivity), and temperature sensor purpose-built for hydroponic substrates such as rockwool and coco peat, as well as soil. Its resin-sealed plastic body with sensing rods inserts directly into the substrate or soil for long-term in-situ measurement. Output interface, connector type, and cable length are configurable via ordering code - the default variant (SlabSense-AAAB002) ships with Substrate Moisture, EC & Temperature measurement, RS485/Modbus-RTU output, 3.9–28V DC supply, a cold-pressed terminal connector, and a 2 m cable.

An optional variant adds an air humidity, temperature, and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) sensor for greenhouse climate control - VPD is a more reliable predictor of plant transpiration and water loss than relative humidity, and is commonly used to hold a target deficit (greater than 0.5 kPa) that lets plants transpire effectively while limiting foliar disease. Reverse power protection and built-in TVS/ESD protection are included.

Important Notes

  • The Air Humidity & Temperature & VPD add-on (Code 2 = B) reduces the sensor's IP rating from IP68 to IP50 - it is not fully sealed against submersion.
  • The sensor rods are sharp for ease of insertion - handle with care and follow installation precautions.
  • Do not pull the sensor out of soil or substrate by its cable.
  • VWC range and calibration are media-dependent; a custom factory calibration can be requested for specific substrates.
  • When using RS485 Active Output mode, only one sensor should be on the network to avoid data collision.
