MCCI Catena® 4801 RS-485 node
The MCCI Catena® 4801 RS-485 Node for LoRaWAN® technology networks is a complete open-source single-board IoT device that can monitor and control remote Modbus, M-Bus and other industrial devices.
Based on the Murata CMWX1ZZABZ-078, the Catena 4801 is a great platform for RS-485/Modbus based LoRaWAN investigation and deployment. It works well with The Things Network, or any LoRaWAN 1.0 or 1.1 network in the 865 to 923 MHz range. Sigfox networks are also supported.
As a Modbus controller, the Catena 4801 can control a large number of Modbus devices and communicate results via the LoRaWAN network, limited only by system memory and polling rate. As a Modbus device, the Catena 4801 can bridge an existing Modbus controller to the LoRaWAN network.
Pricing and Availability
The Catena 4801 is available now. MCCI offers several variants.
- The model ("BASIC"): ships with U.FL connector for external antenna. User attaches antenna (and terminal strips if desired). Works with US, Europe, Asia-923, India, Australian, and KR920 regions. If ordered for a specific region, a suitable whip antenna is supplied (either 915 MHz or 868 MHz).
Software development requires an ST-LINK/V2 or equivalent, plus an USB to serial adapter. MCCI's Catena Development Starter Kit includes everything needed.
For assembled units, variant codes select U.FL (no antenna), or dedicated antennas for US915/AS923/AU915/KR920, or EU868/IN866 operation. The 4801 can also be special-ordered with an SMA connector. Contact us for more details.
